Hello, I am Gabriel Gillette.
I casually go by Gabe, but I really have no preference.
I often refer to myself as a hobbyist programmer, but in reality my experience is a little more eclectic than that.
Ever since the age of four, I knew what I wanted to do with my life. After watching the 1996 101 Dalmatians film, I've always wanted to be a video game designer.
I started experimenting with programming at around 10 or 11 years old, but really started getting my feet wet at 13.
Since then, I've had a myriad of ongoing projects of various scope, style, tone, and even medium.
I'm also very much into animation and graphic design, additionally I've dabbled into music and sound design. Having spent a chunk of my teen years
experimenting in animation through traditional pencil and paper drawings, with Macromedia Flash, Stop Motion, and even some CGI.
I've had a fairly unique childhood, growing up in rural Michigan in a business environment. My father owns and runs Gillette Kennels, a renowned commercial boarding kennel in the area. He is also a locally famous dog trainer. I grew up experiencing first hand the blood, sweat, and tears that go into success; values that were heavily instilled into me from my wonderful parents.
My main inspirations are the games Earthworm Jim, Killer7, Doom (1993), Alien Hominid, Another World (AKA Out Of This World), the Silent Hill series, and Tomb Raider (1996) - which happens to my favorite game in general.
My favorite band is Pop Will Eat Itself, but I like a lot of different music. One day you'll catch me sipping coffee to Boards of Canada, and the next I'll be meditating to Aubrey Hodges' Doom soundtrack, and at night you'll see me jamming out to Kandy Pop by Bis. Music is intimately tied to my creative process and often drives the tone of my work.
My favorite films include The Pagemaster, Robocop (1987), Small Soldiers, Wizards, Jacob's Ladder, and The End Of Evangelion.
